Death is both saddening and fascinating. We all wonder what happens after we die, but do we ever really learn as much as we can from the information we do have? It's like they say, your body is a temple, except this temple does some seriously strange things. Using your own digestive juices to eat yourself? No problem! Getting an erection when you're hanged to death? It happens!

  1. When a person dies, the first sense lost is usually sight. This is followed by taste, smell and touch. Last sense to go is hearing.
  2. People can also die out of over laughter. Greek philosopher Chrysippus is an example.
  3. Brain cells die within a few minutes of the heart stopping. Skin cells can survive for up to 24 hours.
  4. Biologically you cannot die of old age. It is the inactivity that kills humans or disease brought on by age.
  5. Men who are hanged get a death erection , known as rigor erectus.
  6. A human head remains conscious for around 20 seconds after being decapitated.
  7. Within three days of death, the enzymes that once digested your dinner begin to eat you.
  8. Dead bodies swell up like balloons after about four days,due to the gases and liquids released by autolysis. This stage is called“bloat”.
  9. When a person is about to die, the brain starts playing all the person's memories in a sequence for about 7 minutes.
  10. Mount Everest has about 200 dead bodies on it, which are now landmarks on the way to the top.
  11. A body decomposes four times faster in water than on land.
  12. The Turritopsis Dohrnii jellyfish is officially known as the only immortal creature in the world. It lives forever.
  13. Forensic scientists can tell how long it has been since death by looking at the species of insect on the body.
  14. Cells are always created and destroyed in the human body. About 300 million cells die every minute in our bodies. To be precise 50,000 cells in your body died and were replaced by new ones while you were reading this sentence.

"Newfound Comet SWAN could soon fizzle out of view"

During the next couple of weeks we'll have a chance of seeing a new comet as it sweeps past the sun.  The comet's name is SWAN, an acronym for the Solar Wind Anisotropies camera on NASA's Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). Officially designated as C/2020 F8, the comet was discovered by Australian amateur astronomer, Michael Mattiazzo, while exploring SWAN imagery on March 25.  Comet SWAN initially caught Mattiazzo's attention because it apparently was undergoing a sudden outburst of hydrogen gas — something that SOHO's SWAN instrument is particularly well adapted to picking up. Water ice from the comet's nucleus evaporates as the comet approaches the sun. Solar ultraviolet radiation splits up water molecules, and the liberated hydrogen atoms glow in ultraviolet light.
